Welcome! Thank you for joining us at Financial Independence Goals. No matter what stage of your financial journey you are in, I think you’ll find useful information here. Some tidbits will make your life a little easier, while others could speed up your financial independence by years!
Since the main focus of FIgoals is about reaching financial independence and all of the freedom included with that, let’s make sure we are on the same page with what that means.
“Financial independence is having enough passive income to sustain your lifestyle while having complete freedom of your time.”
That’s my definition, btw. You could be sleeping on the beach somewhere, but your investments are still working for you. There are also many different ways to receive passive income. A lot of those ways are covered here. The one you are probably most familiar with is putting money into a 401k and letting it grow while you work; you then use that money to pay your bills when you retire.
I’m sure you’ve heard all about the FIRE movement (financial independence, retire early). Well around here we put a lot more emphasis on the first two initials. You can’t retire early without first reaching FI. Once you do reach FI, I believe the RE part becomes purely optional. It’s up to you what your definition of early retirement is, and that definition will most likely change once FI is reached.
Here are some good starting points based on your current learning curve:
–I have issues with budgeting/being able to save money.
–I’m just getting started investing.
–I think I know what I’m doing.
–I’m about to retire, how do I get more income?
You’ll also see a category called PSA’s. While not true Public Service Announcements, they are my opinion on current events. Just me spouting off at the typewriter for a quick read. Agree or disagree. Either way, add a comment and get the conversation started!
One last thing before you start exploring…
You may have noticed most articles have a nature or landscape photo in them. What’s the deal? Why not finance-related photos? On your journey to financial independence, you’ll sometimes need a little extra inspiration or motivation. The pictures inspire me to go on an adventure to experience those places in person. Financial independence is the engine that allows those types of trips. I hope they inspire and motivate you to reach financial independence as well. The goal is absolutely worth any temporary struggles you may be going through!
